Most projects that go wrong were not built badly. They were built before anyone asked what problem they were solving, who it was for, and what would count as it working. Those three answers constrain everything after, and an hour spent on them saves weeks. So what I would actually do with you is not take notes. It is push back. What happens today without this? Who feels the pain -- you, your customers, your staff? If it existed tomorrow, what is the first thing you would use it for? And the useful one people avoid: what is the smallest version that would still be worth having? That last question is what turns an idea into something buildable rather than something that stays a plan. I would also tell you honestly if I think the idea does not need building. Sometimes the answer is a spreadsheet, or an existing tool, or a change in process. Hearing that from someone before you spend money is worth more than a proposal.
