Problems the system might face would include (but is not limited to):
- communication with the boom (e.g. are all entry booms easy to command via third party access like this)
- Internet connection: Since this would fetch data from an online database, we would need a reliable internet connection. Thoughts would be: An optional UTP cable connection with a mandatory backup system which uses mobile data to connect to the internet.
In other words, since this system has the potential to be installed in any site (even on sites where ADSL or other forms of cable connections do not exist), the system will still be able to communicate with the database via mobile data. This will lead to the system requiring a possible SIM card slot. Also, do you have any idea on other problems or solutions for this? For example, say the parking site is underground without an internet access point, the Cellular data would also be useless due to no available signal.
-Effective speed of the system: Since we can assume we are in a crowded parking area, we do not want the system to take exceptionally long to communicate with the database. A thought on a solution might be to download the database partially onto the system once per day, and when a user swipes his/her card, the system would then create an update queue. The update queue contains a list of users whom have swiped to gain entry, and would then (Hourly, if internet connections are available) update the database with the data stored in the queue. Which leads to the requirement for a storage bank (hard drive) to be implemented in the system.
-power supply: It can be assumed that the site will have access to power, but the system also requires a backup power source in case of power failure (ONLY IF: the boom has a backup power supply. I'm not sure how to mechanically/ electrically check for that). The system will have an access point for a (conventional) power supply. The backup system will be charged by the primary power supply. Since this only powers the system itself, I don't believe a huge reserve is needed (Unless communication with the boom requires excessive amounts of power).
-Installation of the system: the system should be encased in a rugged, weather proof encasing (E.g. Hard plastic or any suitable, inexpensive alternative). The encasing will have openings on the base to securely bolt the unit to the floor.
(The outer encasing must be visually appealing)
-Display: an inexpensive display should be used. (E.G. LCD screen)
A DEGREE in some form of Engineering (From a reliable and reputable university).
The product will be used to apply for a patent so without an international degree, I cannot submit your design.
-English Language proficiency: English should preferably be your home language.
-I need a PCB layout designed.
-Your task is to fully complete the design so that it can easily be manufactured from your design. In other words, there should be formal reports and design notes attached.
-Identification of further pitfalls. If you can see any other problems the system might incur, please mention it and hopefully we can find a solution to the product.
-Minimise cost of unit and provide an estimated breakdown of the cost of each unit!
-3D (CAD) rendering of the product.
-Anything else a product of this design would require.
Please provide me with an estimated cost for the design of the product (What you will be doing/The above mentioned) when submitting your bid! Submitions without this requirement will not be considered!
Make sure you understand what the unit's capabilities should be and that you have the skills to complete the entire design efficiently.
