I’m wrapping up a Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL deployment and now need a solid user-management layer. The focus is squarely on two areas: setting up user authentication and defining granular authorization rules. I want all authentication to flow through OAuth so that identities are managed centrally in Google Cloud IAM and can later tie into any SSO provider we adopt. Alongside OAuth, I’d like a rotating-password policy in place for the handful of service accounts that cannot use OAuth directly. Here’s what I need from you: • Configure OAuth 2.0 access for Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL) using Google Cloud IAM. • Create role-based authorization that matches our existing schema design (read-only, read-write, ). • Implement the rotating-password policy for the service accounts, including automation scripts or Cloud Functions so passwords refresh on schedule without downtime. • Provide concise documentation and a short walkthrough so my DBA team can extend or modify the setup later. I’ll consider the job complete when I can: 1. Log in through OAuth with a test user and see only the objects assigned to that role. 2. Watch a service account password rotate on schedule and confirm the application reconnects seamlessly. If you’re comfortable with Google Cloud IAM, Cloud SQL, pg_roles, and scripting (gcloud, Terraform, or Python), I’m ready to get started right away.

Hi Alwal, Managing Cloud SQL PostgreSQL users securely requires proper OAuth authentication, role based access, and reliable password rotation for service accounts. The solution is to configure Google Cloud IAM OAuth, implement PostgreSQL roles and permissions, automate password rotation, and provide clear documentation for your DBA team. That is where my PostgreSQL, Python, cloud security, automation, and scripting expertise comes in. I can deliver a secure and maintainable setup aligned with your existing deployment. I can handle the Cloud SQL IAM integration and build the rotation logic for your service accounts using Python and Cloud Functions. I have previously implemented similar automated infrastructure tasks using Terraform and Python scripting on AWS, and I am comfortable applying those patterns to your GCP environment. I will focus on mapping your schema roles to IAM identities and ensuring the password rotation script handles secret updates without triggering connection drops. My priority is keeping the setup maintainable for your DBA team. A few questions to better understand the scope: Q1 - Which SSO provider do you plan to sync with Google Cloud IAM later? Q2 - Are you currently using Secret Manager to store the service account credentials? Q3 - Do you have a preferred CI/CD pipeline where you want the Terraform configuration integrated? I look forward to discussing how we can secure your Cloud SQL deployment.

Hello, I can help implement and document the requested Cloud SQL PostgreSQL user-management setup using Python and Google Cloud tooling. The work would cover: - Google Cloud IAM and OAuth 2.0 configuration for Cloud SQL - PostgreSQL role-based permissions for read-only and read-write access - Service-account password rotation automation - Python/gcloud-based scripting where appropriate - Testing authentication and role permissions - Documentation and a short walkthrough for your DBA team I understand that security and zero-downtime password rotation are important requirements. I would first review the existing Cloud SQL configuration, PostgreSQL schema, roles, and service-account setup before making changes, then test the complete authentication and rotation workflow. I can provide clean, documented scripts and configuration so your team can maintain the setup afterward. I’m available to discuss the current Google Cloud and PostgreSQL environment before starting.

Hi, I can help you build a secure and maintainable user-management layer for your Cloud SQL PostgreSQL deployment, covering IAM-based authentication, granular PostgreSQL authorization, and automated credential rotation. My approach includes: • Configure Google Cloud IAM authentication for Cloud SQL and integrate authorized users with PostgreSQL access. • Design least-privilege PostgreSQL roles such as read-only and read-write, aligned with your existing schema and object-level permissions. • Implement automated password rotation for accounts that cannot use IAM authentication, using Python, Cloud Functions/Cloud Run, Cloud Scheduler, gcloud, or Terraform based on your infrastructure. • Test credential rotation and application reconnection to minimize downtime. • Provide concise documentation and a walkthrough so your DBA team can maintain and extend the setup independently. I understand your success criteria: a test user must authenticate and access only the objects permitted by their assigned role, while service credentials must rotate automatically without disrupting the application. I would start by reviewing your current Cloud SQL configuration, IAM structure, PostgreSQL roles, schema, and application connection workflow, then implement and test each layer step by step. Hi I'm Kinza I can help configure the Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL user-management layer with Google Cloud IAM, OAuth-based authentication, granular PostgreSQL roles, and automated credential rotation for service accounts that cannot use OAuth. I’ll structure the authorization around your existing schema and create clearly separated read-only and read-write roles with appropriate object-level permissions. For service accounts, I can implement a secure scheduled password-rotation workflow using Python, gcloud, Terraform, or Cloud Functions, with the rotation designed to avoid application downtime and allow seamless reconnection. I’ll also test the complete flow with a dedicated test user, verify that each role can access only the intended database objects, and validate the password rotation and application reconnection process. The final handover will include concise documentation covering the configuration, role structure, rotation process, and steps your DBA team can use for future changes. I’m comfortable working with Google Cloud IAM, Cloud SQL PostgreSQL, pg_roles, OAuth, scripting, and infrastructure automation, and I can start with an audit of your current setup before making the required changes.

Your two completion criteria each hide something. Criterion 1 spans two systems that do not talk to each other. Cloud SQL IAM authentication decides who may connect; what they can see is decided entirely by native Postgres GRANTs. IAM has no view of your schema, and there is no automatic mapping from an IAM group to a Postgres role. Someone has to maintain that mapping - otherwise a user added to a group connects with no privileges, or worse, keeps privileges after leaving it. Making that mapping declarative, in Terraform or a reconciliation script, is the real deliverable behind "role-based authorization". Criterion 2 is decided by your application, not by my rotation script. Postgres has no dual-password window, so rotation is only seamless if the app reads its credential at connect time rather than caching it at boot, and the old secret stays valid until every pool has cycled. If the app loads the password once at startup, no script avoids dropped connections. One more, easy to miss: on the OAuth path the password is an access token that expires in about an hour. Use the Cloud SQL Auth Proxy or the language connectors and refresh is handled for you; connect directly and you own it. 600 INR, 5 days. Aakaash

Hi, How are you planning to map the existing PostgreSQL schema roles to Google Cloud IAM identities, especially where OAuth users and non-OAuth service accounts need different access levels? I understand you need a secure Cloud SQL PostgreSQL user-management layer with IAM-based OAuth authentication, granular pg_roles authorization, and automated password rotation for service accounts. I’d configure IAM database authentication and validate the OAuth flow with a test user first. Then I’d map read-only and read-write permissions to the existing schema without exposing unnecessary objects. For service accounts, I’d implement scheduled password rotation using Python, gcloud, Terraform, or Cloud Functions, with a safe reconnect flow so applications continue working without downtime. Finally, I’d document the configuration and provide a short DBA walkthrough so your team can maintain and extend it confidently. I’d be glad to handle this as the next project and make sure both acceptance tests work end to end. Best regards

User-management and auth layers are my comfort zone - as ex-Technical Lead at Zain Cash and co-founder/CTO of CardMENA I've designed OAuth-based identity and role/permission models where getting authorization wrong isn't an option. For this I'd centralise identities through OAuth so they map cleanly to Google Cloud IAM, then define least-privilege pg_roles on your Cloud SQL Postgres (separating read/write/admin) and script the whole thing so it's reproducible rather than hand-clicked. You'd get the roles + grants, the auth flow wired through IAM, and a short doc so your team can extend it. I work primarily in Node/Python and am comfortable driving this via gcloud/Python scripting. One question: do you want IAM database authentication (users signing in with their Google identity) or Postgres-native roles behind the OAuth app, and is there an existing Terraform setup I should extend or start fresh?
