I am helping a non-profit that is using [url removed, login to view] to communicate with it's members. There are approximately 130 members of our group.
The site works well except there is no notification sent out when someone posts to the forums. Unless you go to the forum site, you'll never know there was a post. We'd like the forums to be more active, so my idea is this:
I can host a perl script on my webserver that scrapes the forums, say every 5 minutes. If there is a new post in any of the forum categories, it sends an email to all the members that want to be notified.
The email will need to have a link to the new forum post.
The GroupSpaces site requires a login to access the forums.
There are several categories in the Forums and those will change. The scrape will need to be able to navigate all the categories looking for new content.
As I say, I have a webserver I can run the script on. I just don't have the Perl chops to write it. Should be pretty easy for someone with some skills.
