WEBSITE WITH ONLINE SITE MANAGEMENT ADMIN
This project is design for a website and an online management tool for the site.
From the admin area, one can create and edit pages on the site, upload photos, etc.
The main areas of the site are:
1) Home Page
3) Historic Items
7) Mailing List
Collapsable links at the top of the page, showing sub-categories, etc. on mouse-over.
In addition, links on the left side of the page with a “+” next to items that have Sub-Categories, or Sub-Sub-Categories - so that users can navigate with the links at the top of the page, or the links at the left side of the page.
1) Home Page
Links to the rest of the site. Ability to change text, and add images from the Admin area.
Note: all areas that allow for the editing of text should allow for complete editing, including style (bold, colors, size, etc.). There are several PHP editors available that should easily integrate into this system.
This area is basically a blog. You could use Word Press in this area. I will be writing articles to post here and hoping to get user comments.
3) Historic Items
I will be selling items in this area (antiques, etc). From the Admin Area, I should be able to create: Categories, Sub-Categories, and Sub-Sub-Categories, as well as pages to put in each area.
Example: If I wanted to sell an old manual type calculator...
I would create:
Category: Business Equipment
Sub-Category: Calculators and Adding Machines
Sub-Sub-Category: Manual Calculators
In this case, after the above has been created, when a visitor moves his mouse over the menu item at the top of the page “Historic Items”, he will see a Sub-Category “Business Equipment”. If he then moves his mouse to Business Equipment, he will see the Sub-Sub-Category “Manual Calculators”
In the case above, if the user clicks on “Business Equipment”, he goes to the Top page for Business Equipment, which would have links to the sub-categories in this section, as well as links to items for sale in this Top category. The sub-category links should be expandable if there are sub-sub-categories. So, on this Top level category page, there are links to sub-categories, sub-sub-categories, and also links to items that are for sale, that were listed in this Top level category (that were not assigned a sub or sub-sub-category).
After categories, sub-categories and sub-sub-categories have been created, I should be able to create pages from the Admin Area to put items for sale in any category, sub-category, or sub-sub-category.
Pages with items for sale should allow for text editing, and adding pictures. Each item will have at least one picture, but may have several pictures (similar to an eBay listing). There will be text for each item from one paragraph to several paragraphs. Links should be able to be added to the text. “Buy This Now” link opens a new page with a form.
The buyer who is interested to purchase an item should fill in the form that has full contact info, including name, full mailing address, phone, cell, email, comments, etc. After they do this, an email is generated that tells them that they will receive a paypal payment request within 24 hours. I will also receive a message telling me of the order. In addition, the order will be visible from the Admin Area as “pending”. After I receive payment and send the item to the buyer, I can mark it as sent in the Admin. Emails are editable from the admin area.
In this area, I will be putting user manuals for old equipment like calculators, typewriters, etc. for free user download. It will require a Top page for Manuals, and then the ability to add categories and sub-categories. I should be able to upload PDFs, HTML, or other file types directly from the Admin Area and have them linked from the appropriate category page. I should be able to add a brief description that is displayed with each link.
Links to relevant sites. All on one page, split into Categories. I need to be able to add links with some text to go with each link.
A simple contact form that accepts name, phone, email, and comments, with CAPTCHA. Ask with a check-box if the want to be on our mailing list.
Allow people to join the mailing list from this page. In addition anyone that has contacted me or has submitted a request to purchase an item is on the mailing list. By clicking a link in an email, users should be able to opt-out.
When a new item is added to the Historic Items area or to the Manuals, or the Articles areas, I should heave the option to Notify the Mailing List. If I choose this option, then the entire email list is notified of the addition to the site.
For the design of the site....
The domain name is [url removed, login to view]
it is a combination of the words cerebral and library.... so the design should take that into account... something to do with science... perhaps an open head with books or scientific instruments coming out. I am open to a few suggestions.
