We need help updating 18 WordPress sites on a monthly basis, and 1 site on a quarterly basis (with more sites likely to follow).
These are client sites, and need to maintain a high level of reliability. In addition, some customisations have been performed on some sites, so you’d need to follow a set procedure, to ensure “bugs” don’t creep in to the code, and customisations aren’t lost.
We’ve been doing these updates in-house for quite a while. The “first round” of updates always takes some time (mainly in checking-out / in), but afterwards, our procedure takes an average of 20 to 40 minutes per site, for an experienced operator. Two of the sites, however, are monsters – and take around half-a-day each.

For QA / quality control purposes, we have a very strict procedure to follow. For each site you will:
1: Created and download a backup of the production site, using the Duplicator (free) plugin where possible, and FTP / phpMyAdmin where an automated backup cannot be performed
2: Restore the backup to a development environment (most likely your personal development machine)
3: Check the restored backup into our subversion repository, hosted by Assembla
4: Upload the backup / restore file to our shared Dropbox folder
5: Perform / install the WordPress updates on your development machine
6: Test the updates worked correctly, and ensure any customized code remains in-tact (we will supply you with a list of things to look for, for each WordPress site)
If all tests we’re successful (ie, updates go through without issue):
7: Check in the updated development site
8: Perform the updates on the production site
9: Note the plugins, themes and other updates performed
10: Test the production site for unexpected bugs.
If one or more tests fail (eg, PHP errors appear, customisations are lost)
11: Note where the problem is
12: Go back to step 2, and re-perform the updates – skipping the problematic plugin / theme / file

At the end of each update, you’ll need to send through a summary report, detailing
* Whether the WordPress core has been updated
* Whether any translations were updated
* What (if any) themes have been updated
* What (if any) plugins have been updated
…and let us know if:
* There are any SSL certificates due to expire in the next 90 days (from update)
* There are any plugin or theme licences due to expire in the next 90 days (from update)
In your bid, please add the cost of updating all 19 sites, but add an individual site price into your comments submission.

Hi, As you would have received my NDA signature, my name is Richard and I am from New Zealand. I will be using Duplicator, but am aware it doesn't always work - in which case I might use another free extension or my own php-gzip script plus mysqldump invoker.
I am bidding trusting your time estimates, expecting to sink in 30 minutes on average per 16 of the 18 sites, plus 2 sites at 4 hours - so easily 16 hours of solid work once the gears have been oiled.
To get there, expect 2-4 times the initial effort (32-64 hours) including setting up a test server and DNS-A records for all the domain names in an isolated test rig. This puts the rate at between under minimum pay ($15.6/hr) and rookie ($31/hr)...
