I have worked with scraping Instagram before. Since the entire of Instagram pages are generated at the client, traditional scraping methods of requesting the html document will not work since it will receive an empty document. Scraping Instagram requires the usage of a windowless browser such as PhantomJs which allows javascripts to run and an automation platform such as Selenium WebDriver which allows you to script human interactions with webpages such as moving the cursor, clicking buttons, etc
