As MSSQL can manage with high efficiency XML data, querying very fast (i did some work parsing a 300Mb XML into a single field and queried it in less than 1 minute, summarizing and doing some other operations on it), so I believe this would be the first step for your app: move the DB into the professional MSSQL, and fulfilling like this the best practices which indicate that different layers must be separated (DB, App). Then the XML import/export interface will be easily done. If we can make a good team, I'd like to associate to improve your project.
