Drive Mac QuarkXPress from W2K

This is a proof-of-concept project. Our objective is to leverage our powerful Windows/QuarkXPress-based automated publishing system to the Macintosh. Rather than port the entire system to the Mac, we are interested in exploring the feasibility of driving Mac QuarkXPress from our Windows publishing engine. The assumption (for now) is that the Windows machine and the Mac are on the same LAN connected via TCP/IP. If you can demonstrate a successful proof-of-concept in a reasonable period of time, we will be very interested in extending the project and moving into a development phase. The deliverables will consist of one analysis and two components: **Analysis.** A discussion of the pros and cons of the inter-process communications alternatives that would apply to our situation. This analysis should include a recommendation which should then be used to implement the two components. **Component #1.** A simple interactive Windows program into which a user can enter simple script commands. Must run under W2K. **Component #2.** A Quark XTension and Mac service combination that communicates with the Windows program. Must run under Mac OS X v10.2 (Jaguar) with QuarkXPress 6.1. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased.
