I have a Wordpress site which contains 1600+ pages: all text, no multi-media. The site is hosted on a dedicated server, the CPU is a 2x Intel Xeon [url removed, login to view] with a memory of 2x 512MB DDR1 ECC RE and a Hard Drive of 1x 73GB SCSI HDD. Operating System: Linux. Server panel: Plesk.
Problem: the site keeps crashing the server; I am told that 'sql spikes' are the cause, 'bad code' using php to process sql services and/or keeping sql services open too long, thereby building up more processes leading to the spike and the crash. They also say our sql queries are extremely inefficient.
On previously advertising this problem, a rogue Wordpress plugin was identified and removed. This improved the situation. The host originally limited us to 35 concurrent connections in an effort to maintain stability, along with disabling any search engine robots from trawling the site. The number of connections was then raised to 75. However, the site started crashing again on re-admiting search robots - again, bad sql optimisation and poor php code is being blamed.
I urgently need some one to analyze and solve this problem please, looking specifically at the php and database aspects of the problem. I am a not-for-profit and speed of resolution is an absolute priority.
