Enhancements to one WP plugins

We have a wordpress plugin that requires some enhancements. We are looking for on going work. We expect to make major changes to the plugin over the coming weeks, and then into the future, so ideally we want to find 1 or more coders to help us know, and to provide enhancements and support in the future.

We have developed an rss plugin that has been in operation for around 5-6 months.

It needs some general bug fixes and enhancements. The first round of "fixes" are shown in the attached text file.

That is what you should bid on. But we have many other enhancements planned and are looking to enter into a long term relationship with a coder to manage these changes.

I was a programmer for over 20 years (retired in April 2008). I have good experience with php and java, c++, etc but do not have the time to be making these changes, so I will provide the coder with the required changes and manage the process.

This is an opportunity to work with us for the long term, but in enhancing the plugin (and others we have planned) but also maintaining it, making changes to accommodate new versions of wordpress, etc.

Firstly an overview of what the plugin does.

At the time the user posts an article in wordpress, this plugin creates a new rss feed and stores it in a pre-defined directory. It then submits that new xml file to a number of rss aggregator sites.

Some of these sites require a login (username/password) and the plugin stores the username/password in this situation (in an xml file) and will "login" before submitting the feed.

Some of these sites also accept titles, tags, etc and by default the plugin will use the title and tags from the post and submit them.

The rss feed created is created by looking at the contents of the post.

Note there are two separate scripts. The one we will show you below is basic version that has less functionality than the other version we have.

The main differences are the "professional" edition supports around 20+ rss aggregators, and supports multiple profiles (multiple usernames/passwords for each rss aggregator) and some cron functionality.

If your bid is successful we will supply you with the professional edition of the plugin. But note that the majority of the code in the plugin is identical, so if you look at the code here, you should have no problems with the professional edition.

Hopefully we may get to work with you in the future!

The changes required are attached to this message.

Here is an rss feed you can use to download the pro edition, and watch videos, etc.

I suggest you look at the videos to understand how it is installed, and how it works, etc.

Once you are up to speed, I will give you details of the rss aggregators that need attention.

If you have questions please let me know.

I think the main thing is to watch the videos, firstly to understand how to install it, but then how to use it.

There are extra videos there on the "non-wordpress" version of the software, which you can ignore, you only need to watch the wordpress versions.

Then also when you do a test submit of the software, look at the log file it creates as that is quite detailed.

Also instead of looking at the reasons of compatibility with other plugins (the last item on the list) please do the following.

I've done some research and I think a lot of the problem is naming conflicts.

For example I got a support ticket about this: -

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare get_string_between() (previously declared in /home/desire2/public_html/scrapbooking-by-design/wp-content/plugins/datafeedr/functions.php:1039) in /home/desire2/public_html/scrapbooking-by-design/wp-content/plugins/rss_power_plus/string_functions.php on line 84

This is a clear function name problem.

So instead of doing that analysis, could you please take the time to rename all functions in the code?

e.g. Instead of using function get_string_between() rename the function to rpp_get_string_between() (rpp stands for Rss Power Plus).

Or use a naming convention of your choice taking into account the name of the .php file maybe? Whatever you decide.

But make it to be very unlikely to be used (the function name) in any other plugins.

We could use name spaces, but remember the code has to work with version 4 and version 5 of php.

So please do this. If it turns into a huge job I will pay a bonus.

Obviously I would want you to take extreme care not to introduce new bugs by doing this, but the code base is not huge, so all should be ok.
