This job involves making some improvements to various sections of our news website. Most of the changes are small, and should be relatively easy and quick. Some of the changes will require adjustments to the Front-end/appearance of the site, and others will involve changes to the CMS/admin. The changes are described in great detail in the attached documents. The documents are well-organized by section, and they contain links to referenced sections of the site. In other words, we've tried to make the documentation as easy as possible to read and follow.
We posted a job on RAC two years ago. The coders whose bid we accepted finished that job, and then we continued to work with them on this and other projects outside of the RAC environment for the past two years. They have done a decent job and we like them very much, but they are simply too busy now to fulfill our needs within the time frame we require.
Therefore, we are looking to find programmers to complete this job as posted.
We are ALSO hoping to find a programmer (or team) with whom we can CONTINUE to work after this job, on future projects. A site that is as large as ours needs lots of maintenance, and we are always thinking of additions and improvements. And we have other sites too. Therefore, if we can find programmer/s with whom we can develop a long term relationship, that would be great. (Of course, this possibility of a future relationship is not a requirement for this specific job.)
Here's what we would like in a developer/s, for both this project and any future work that might come up:
--decent proficiency in English
--skill with custom code, PHP, MySQL, open source modules, etc. Innovation, creativity, and cleverness a definite plus.
--reliability: products delivered on schedule, tested, and functional
--honesty and trustworthiness
One more important note before we continue. Our site is of a political nature, coming from one side of the American political spectrum (the Republican and conservative side). If you have strong negative feelings about America or American politics, please do not apply. If you have neutral or positive feelings about our politics, then please feel free to apply.
In the master document, you will find all of the work that is required. Most of the work is small fixes and improvements, things that should not take a tremendous amount of time and effort.
There are a few elements, shown in blue text, that involve larger changes to certain sections. There are supplementary comp-images and text documents included for these portions. The names of the correct documents are referenced in these sections of the master document.
We always try to provide clear visual and textual descriptions of our needs. Of course, we would like to ask that, within that framework, you be flexible. In other words, if something is incorrect in our specifications, please let us know. If something is incompletely described, please bring this to our attention before or during the work process. That way, we can discuss whatever adjustments need to be made. We work very hard to be as thorough as possible with our specifications, but we are not programmers ourselves, and so we may not always get everything listed perfectly. The idea is to create a function or page that meets our ultimate needs.
This site's code is not commented; there are no files maps or documentation. Our previous developers have assured us that the code is well-organized and will be completely comprehensible to any programmers who have the necessary skills to complete this job.
It is our desire to make the job as worthwhile as possible for whatever programmer whose bid we select. For this reason, we have posted this as one big job, rather than small jobs. The idea is that, because it is a big job, it will be more worth your time to examine and learn the code for a site such as ours. Also, we hope that the possibility of future work may add to the incentive.
**We placed this job in the over $500 category, but we do not know exactly how much it is actually worth. We would like to keep costs down as much as possible, so if you are able to do the job for less money, that would be a good thing!**
If you think that you may be able to meet our needs, please contact us.
