Mod_rewrite .htaccess file

I need a mod_rewrite expert who can massage an existing .htaccess file to make it do what i want. I am currently running a directory script (WSN Links) that uses mod_rewrite to turn all the dynamic category URLs into static short URLs. I want to add a 301 redirect to my .htaccess file so that it will permanently redirect [login to view URL] to [login to view URL] as well as all the existing subdirectories such as [login to view URL] I have this working fine on other parts of my site but I can't get it to work properly in the directory portion of my site. The problem now is the code that normally works for me to do a 301 doesn't in this case, because it rewrites the URL into the long dynamic URL fashion for the category.? For example when ever I type in [login to view URL] it changes it to [login to view URL]? I want it to 301 to [login to view URL] It's not applying the original set of rules.?
