AJAX Search on Existing Website

If possible, I would like Ajax used to make search choices immediately update results without running back to server. I also want it to seem very Web 2.0. There are 3 parts all on one page - search criteria, search results filstrip, and map. Search criteria This would have the basic search criteria. Right now I am pulling what to search dynamically out of a database since I have various categories ("If they choose to search Real Estate, show the Real Estate specs to search on", "If they choose vehicles, show the vehicle specs to search on"). I'm not opposed to having a hardcoded criteria box for each category if it will lay out and look prettier. Also, I would like some wow factor - i.e. price range could be a slider you drag two arrows along instead of min/max dropdowns. I would also like the search criteria to have "how important is this" ratings. So if someone says they want to search for a house that is on a lake, they can say this is a "must have" or "would be nice" - then the results will take that into consideration (i.e. if waterfront is a Must Have then all returned results would be waterfront. If waterfront was Would Be Nice then it would be taken into consideration as a ranking thing - the more "would be nice" ammenities it has the better the percent match). Some additional search criteria would be when/if the listing was already viewed by the user and when (I am tracking that), when it was last updated, distance from certain zip code, etc (we can work out full list once moving forward). Search Results Filmstrip This I am picturing going across the page, right to left. About 10-15 (?) results show at a time and they are slowly scrolling unless someone mouses over (then it stops) or hits a forward/backward nav graphic. Each result would have the main thumbnail, price, city/state, and maybe percent match. Logic would have to be formed for the "percent match" - I don't have that. When a thumbnail was moused over, a database entry would log it, that item would highlight/flash on the map below (if possible), and a popup (you know the kind - where the screen behind goes dim and it isn't a new browser popping up) would show the details of that listing. On that popup they could do the things they can do right now (make comments, rate it, see all photos,? etc). When they were done they would shut the "popup" and be right back to their search exactly where they left off. They could click it for the official page. For an example I think [login to view URL] does that. Ideally, as the search criteria is changed the results would keep changing (starting over the filstrip but without reloading page). They could sort by various things. Map All listings inside the bounds of the map would show on map. If no zip code criteria entered map would center on user's zip code if logged in. The map would be similar to (actually, exactly like) <[login to view URL]> (click a city to see the search criteria/map in use). Mouse over a listing and get the same "popup" as above with listing details and functionality. Whew! Did that make sense? There is a lot more stuff I want to do on the website, so this could lead to more work. But for right now, I want to see how much it will cost me for just bringing the search into the presentday :) * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Wednesday Jan 14, 2009 1:40:49 PM: If you haven't already, please provide me with a price (using classic ASP - not ASP.NET), estimated amount of time you would need, and a few example websites that show Ajax-type functionality. Unfortunately, I cannot reply to all bidders asking questions due to the response I have gotten, so please use your best guess at pricing. I will only choose from the bidders that have provided me all of the above. To clarify, it is just 1 page that has (1) a search criteria sidebar, (2) a scrolling filmstrip of search result photo thumbnails and (3) a map showing locations of search results. If possible, the filmstrip and map should be tied together (mouse over a thumbnail on the filmstrip and that marker on the map lights up/mouse over a marker on the map and the filmstrip should scroll to and highlight that thumbnail). Mouse-overs on both filmstrip and map will also give abreviated details about the listing, and clicking will take them to a full (already built) info page (logic must be in place to allow them to go back to those search results via a link/button from the info page). Not much integration with the rest of the site - pretty much a standalone search page. That should help those of you saying you needed to see the code before you could price it - price it as if you were writing it as a standalone ASP page. Hope that helps! Jenn
