NU 576 Excel Workbook Exercise
The purpose of this exercise is to familiarize you with the effective use of Excel as a tool to manage finances and numbers. You are to create an Excel worksheet that demonstrates a staffing plan with salary information for a small hospital unit. The Unit is staffed in three 8 hour shifts. There is 1 nurse manager who works Monday through Friday during the day shift. However, the unit is an inpatient unit that operates 24/7. Each day and evening shift should be staffed with 4 RNs, 2 Nursing Assistants and 1 Unit Clerk. Each night shift should be staffed with 3 RNs and 2 Nursing Assistants.
Your spreadsheet should have the following columns:
• Staff Member
• Hourly Rate
• Weekly Salary
Create a row for each staff member and subtotals for each category of staff for the Day, Evening and Night shifts. Calculate the weekly staff salary budget and the annualized salary budget.
You should be using formulas for the following cells on your spreadsheet:
• Weekly Salary
• Subtotals for each category of staff for each shift
• FTE subtotals for each category of staff for each shift and total numbers for the unit
• Weekly salary budget and annual salary budget
