JOB POSTING Fashion/Technical Illustrator SUMMARY Job Title: Fashion Illustrator; Technical Illustrator (for fashion application) Position Type: Freelance with hourly compensation Location: NYC metro area preferred, but we will review work from remote applicants as well Compensation: Negotiable Posting date: May 22, 2014 Closing date: June 20, 2014 (applications submitted after this date may not be considered) POSITION We are looking for a qualified Fashion and Technical Illustrator for garment/fashion related work. General summary of work needed is listed below: Technical garment and accessory flats for use in knitting patterns and catalogs/lookbooks Technical diagrams showing construction steps for hand knit garment fabrication Technical diagrams for knitting techniques (samples will be provided as reference points) Stylized fashion flats for catalogs and marketing materials Stylized vector line art for promotional materials Illustrator will report to the company’s creative director to assist on a wide range of tasks in layout and design as we produce our design collections The position is currently a freelance hourly part-time job with hours fluctuating based on current project load of the brand. Illustrator may do most work from home/studio, but will be required to be present in our Jersey City Office/Studio as needed if local (a short subway ride from Downtown Manhattan and easily accessible via public transit from all boroughs as well as the NJ metro area). We are looking for someone with a clean, architectural, minimalist aesthetic. Experience in fashion and/or technical illustration required. An illustrator who is also a knitter will give you a huge advantage in this position, though being a knitter is not a requirement for this position. If you are a self-motivated person interested in knitting, yarn, U.S.-made manufacturing and fashion design, and like working in a focused, creative and collaborative atmosphere, this job will be a good fit for you. Our look is clean, essential and friendly, favoring modern, grid-based design. Full proficiency with all software listed below is required: Adobe Creative Suite Adobe Illustrator Adobe Photoshop Admin/Office Software Word Processing (Mac Pages or MS Word) Dropbox (or experience with similar cloud systems) Instant Messenger Proficiency in the following software is not a requirement, but will be favored: General knowledge of hand knitting or textile production is a major plus Additional Software Adobe InDesign Spreadsheet Software (Mac: Numbers; PC: Excel) Third party e-mail clients (Mac Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc.) Personal Skills We are looking for someone highly organized, detail oriented and level-headed. You must be able to work independently as a self-starter as well as under the direction of our creative director and collaborative team. We are looking for someone warm, friendly and personable.
