I have a collection of websites which I own (circa 170) which I plan to increase to around 300.
I want a piece of software which runs on a web server, probably written in perl. I need a user interface where I enter a list of websites and the server checks some reference text on the page to see if each website is live and responding properly.
The software should check each site every 6 hours. If it gets a "failed" error 3 times in a row, it should generate a warning email message with details of the website which isn't responding correctly.
In addition to the reporting where these is a problem, it should have a "status" page accessed via a browser, which lists each domain with a status of "WORKING" or "NOT RESPONDING". Any websites in the "NOT RESPONDING" catagory should be at the top of the page and coloured red.
I will provide ftp access to the webserver.
I have some other utilises written in perl which need maintaining so if this project goes well, I would be interested in options to get these re-written/adapted as necessary.
I'd be glad to help, but there's a question before: have you had a look over Nagios or any similar package ? On what OS platform are you running this ? Thank you.
