Automated Data Collection Project
I need someone to collect election and referendum results for France and create a spreadsheet with the results using a script or other technique. I have been unable to get the data directly, even though they are available on public websites. These are official public data so there are no copyright issues. I hope some good programmer can write something that can automatically gather the data from these websites.
For the first three datasets I need data for two levels of government: the 100 departements and 36567 towns/communes. The fourth dataset is divided by canton, which is a subdivision of the departement. Five of the departements are overseas territories (Les autres collectivités d'outre-mer) and are less of a priority. I have a list of departements and towns (communes) along with identification numbers in two Excel spreadsheets that I can to those interested. I don't need the percentages from these webpages and would rather have just the raw numbers.
1. Presidential Election 2002
The data are available at either
The website search facilities allows one to enter an ID numbers and then returns a page with the data.
2. Maastricht Referendum 1992
The data are available at
Choice via pull-down menus, and then communes arranged by first letter.
3. EU Constitution Referendum 2005
The EU Constitution Referendum will be held Sunday, May 29, 2005 and the results should be on the website a day or two later. The table forms are already on-line.
4. Presidential Election 1995
Choose Presidentielle 1995 from pull-down menu. Then choose a departement. A list of cantons will appear. The entry "GLOBAL 01" is the result for the whole departement.
The 1995 Presidential results are available by cantons, which are a subdivision of departements. Therefore these data would need to be entered on into a separate spreadsheet.
