Hi, Since your app is plain HTML/JS with no server, there's nowhere safe to keep a client secret, so the right setup is a Web application Client ID used with Google Identity Services on the front end only, no secret in the page. The two things that break this most often are the authorised JavaScript origin not matching your exact domain (including localhost with port for testing) and the consent screen sitting in Testing mode, which blocks any Google account you haven't listed as a test user.
