Turbine blade and disk Design and Lifing Analysis (Individual effort)

Perform a complete design of the blade-disk assembly using the analytical techniques which were provided from

Sawyers Turbine design manual.

The materials which will be used will be Discaloy for the disk and Alloy X3 first generation single crystal for the

blade. Material Properties are provided.

A) Design of Blade and Disk

 Design the airfoil cross section

 Design the disc fixing (this should be a three-lobe design, preferably)

 Design the blade fir tree

 Design the blade platform

 Optimize the disc profile to yield a durable and light design using MDIDS-GT by applying a higher

mass at the outer rim to simulate the total mass of the blade, the firtree and platform as well as the

disc tangs. You may alternatively use the finite difference method described in Sawyers notes on

Turbine Disc-Blade design if you wish but it is not mandatory. Using MDIDS-GT with the mass

adjustment should provide the same results.

 Perform stress analysis of the critical areas of the disk identified in Sawyers notes (see below).

 Perform a disc burst analysis and determine the Burst Margin.
