I’m developing an IoT device that will live permanently outdoors, so the enclosure must be tough st and attractive. The product needs to be C1D2 certified. I have sketched the basic board layout and I now need a mechanical engineer who can carry the housing from an initial requirements definition all the way through to documentation for mass production. Durability drives every decision: weather-proof seals, UV-stable plastic (I’m leaning toward a robust polycarbonate or glass-filled nylon), impact resistance, and the ability to maintain watertight integrity after repeated assembly cycles. If you feel a metal insert or composite gasket improves reliability, I’m open to those suggestions, but the core body should remain plastic to keep tooling costs and weight down. The workflow I envision starts with refining requirements and translating them into an industrial design concept that balances ruggedness with a clean look. From there, you will create the full mechanical CAD, run tolerance and DFMA checks, and guide at least one round of 3-D printed or CNC prototypes for fit, seal integrity, and thermal behavior. Once we lock the geometry, you’ll prepare the production files—2-D drawings with GD&T, BOM, material call-outs, and any critical testing procedures—to hand straight to the molder. Key deliverables: • Requirements and concept deck with rendered visuals • Native CAD files (SolidWorks or equivalent) and export STEP/IGES • Prototype support and concise engineering review reports • Final 2-D drawings, BOM, and assembly instructions ready for tooling • Validation test plan covering ingress (IP), drop, and UV exposure • Complete revision-controlled documentation package for production release I’ll be available for quick feedback loops and can supply PCB models, antenna keep-outs, and regulatory constraints on request.
