Pls, check my feedbacks here. You will find a lot of successful hotspot projects, based on openwrt. Also incl. Revive ads on login page, or forced video before free usage. However, never used Perfex nor OpenWISP. Which is too bloated, when using small openwrt devices. Custom remote config instead, via MQTT, HTTPS or HTTP+VPN. There is an issue regarding coova, which is not supported on latest openwrt, because of switch to nftables. To be discussed.
