Senior Kotlin Android Engineer Role - Part-Time

– Requirements – Contract role only. Senior applicants only. Minimum 5+ years of professional Android development experience required. Start is immediate. Must be located in Australia. Up to 10 hrs per week, with opportunity to increase over time. – About Klara – Klara is a native Android tablet app used by factory workers in food and beverage manufacturing businesses. It helps workers record mandatory food safety information directly from the production line, replacing paper-based processes. The app is written in Kotlin and designed specifically for Android tablets. There are no plans for iOS. – The role – The MVP is complete and going live this month with 4 paying early access customers. You will take a structured handover from the existing Android developers and steward the app through the transition from development into production. The initial focus is stability, reliability, and maintainability. In the second half of the year, there may be opportunities for further feature development or greenfield work, depending on customer feedback and market response. This role suits a senior, low-maintenance engineer. – Responsibilities – – Maintain and improve the existing Android codebase in Kotlin – Fix bugs and improve stability as the app enters production – Ship small, well-scoped features based on customer feedback – Work directly with the founder (product and design) – Collaborate with backend (Python, GraphQL) and web (React) developers – Technical environment – Android: Kotlin native Backend: GCP and Firebase, Python, GraphQL Design system: Material Design 3 Web frontend: React – Criteria – 5+ years professional Android development experience Strong Kotlin skills Experience supporting production Android apps Familiarity with Material Design 3 Comfortable working with GraphQL APIs Comfortable taking ownership of an existing codebase
