I’d approach this with Kotlin + Firebase for realtime sync, layered with a proper Signal-based encryption implementation so messages are encrypted end-to-end and still flow correctly with offline support. The hardest decision early is how keys and sessions are managed across devices and reinstalls, because changing that later can break existing conversations. I’d lock the messaging + encryption flow first, then build UI and submission around it.
