I am looking to develop an interactive radio station that users running a smart phone can listen to.
I would like to start the project off with a Blackberry application (that would work with all models). This application would be a free download for users. Once they download the application, they will be able to listen to and servers we have available. We will basically offer different servers for different types of music.
Now I know there are already radio stations available like this, but we are trying a different approach. First, we want to create an interactive radio station for cell phone users. We want them to be able to request songs and shout-outs that will go straight to the live DJ. Most radio stations, such as slacker is just a playlist playing music. We want users to be able to interactive with the DJ. So not only can they do those features, we want to create a live chat where users can interact with each other and the DJ. I think the easiest way to do this would be having the client connect them to an IRC channel.
The radio station would be broadcasted over shoutcast, so if possible, I would like the client to monitor and play whatever the shoutcast server is playing.
Also, the client should show the song, artist, and album being played.
I am in college and do not have a huge budget, but for now I am only looking for a blackberry application. I would like to expand in to the apple iPhone so if you are able to develop that as well, I would love to hear your estimate on that part of the project and I may have you do it later down the road.
Thanks for reading guys, have a good one, let me know if you are interested.
