Seeking realistic illustrations.
The purpose is to provide visual, conceptual support to software developers and web designers.
The illustration must be in the style of photo-realism, with some content of subtle fantasy and mythology... Realistic illustrations of things unreal.
The selected illustration is to dominate the opening (home) page of an uncommon website. The entire opening screen, much as the Bing website uses photographs, will be comprised of this illustration. When the rough conceptual illustration is selected, artistic detail will become paramount.
As the site developes, long term, the opening illustrations will reflect seasonal changes, possibly geographic changes as well.
The homepage imagery must be captivating and engaging to the visitor. Ultimately, a user will linger at the site to enjoy and ponder the artistic expression.
A user, upon arriving at the homepage, sees a lush, peaceful setting. Lots of flora and fona and other natural life and living things... possibly the slightest suggestion of a ‘heavenly’ influence, a truly safe and serene environment. Time of day: From early dawn to daytime.
Central to this setting is a larger-than-life sandglass. It is monolithic, rising out of the isolated landscape, yet integrated into the surrounding nature.
The supporting structure is magnificent and strong. Yet it contains a crystal-like glass (the sandglass); delicate and brilliant. It appears indestructible against the fragile glass. Possibly a dark granite container encasing the glass; or a large, aging wood container (like the structures found in Middle Earth/Lord of the Rings). (See accompanying photo for style of structure)
The containing structure surrounding the sandglass may appear too substantial for the delicate crystalline container that it supports. Yet it serves to convey the priceless value of its contents: The sands of a lifetime. Something that must be managed and protected at all costs.
The bright white sand in the glass is flowing, draining, depleting… like time itself. It represents the future of a living soul, steadily draining into the past. The drained sand in the bottom of the sandglass appears as a mottled brown/dark brown/black. It is the metaphor of time used and no longer useful.
A prominent nameplate is near the top of the sandglass structure. It is elegant-looking and appears to be of a strong, permanent metallic substance. Possibly brass or copper, maybe lead, or some combination thereof (Titanium?). It must endure for a lifetime. It bears the name of the soul who’s life-sand is constantly draining into the past. It reads:
The Gift of My Lifetime:
1955 - XXXX
Side Ideas: 1) Menu buttons of the homepage are built into the vertical support structures on either side of the sandglass: Login, Sign-up, etc.
