About Archie’s Press: Please visit [login to view URL] Archie’s Press is primarily known for its minimalist map prints that explain a city in simple terms. Archie’s Press carries over 150 products, 32 maps in different sizes and colors. We sell online, at fairs and in shops around the world. Archie is temporarily in New York creating some East Coast maps and developing a new distribution network. In Brief: Archie’s Press is seeking a contracted designer to create map artwork on a project-by-project basis. Min Qualifications: Conceptually-inclined BA/BS (Philosophy, Design, Art are great examples) Thorough knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, particularly the pen tool. About you: You’re a young designer looking to work with a growing brand. You’ve played with the Adobe suite for a couple of years and feel confident in your skills. You have an affinity for maps and information design, and aim to solve design problems in the simplest way possible. You can take a methodology and follow it thoroughly. You love urbanism. Bonus: You have some knowledge of printing and material limitations, particularly related to letterpress. About the Job: You’ll be creating maps for Archie’s Press line of products. You will start with source materials to extract the essential gestures from the city or diagrams. You will be involved in all areas of the design process, from initial gestural compositions to print-ready finishing touches. There are many guidelines to follow that may only be broken with very good reason. The job will unfold city by city.
