I have a popular children’s story-projector toy and want to turn it into an open, re-programmable platform. The factory PCB will be removed and replaced by an ESP32 that drives a DFPlayer Mini for sound and an NFC reader for quick selection of content. What I need from you • A working prototype motherboard (ESP32-based) that fits the toy’s existing space and re-uses its buttons, speaker, LEDs and motor. • Firmware that lets me load both audio tracks and image discs of my choosing. Audio format is flexible—MP3, WAV or AAC all work. • When a tagged card is tapped, it must immediately switch to the matching image set; audio can follow a playlist or stay silent depending on a flag in firmware. • Simple serial or Wi-Fi interface for uploading new files and mapping NFC UIDs to content. • Full documentation: schematic, PCB files, pinout, firmware source, and a short “how-to-add-more-content” guide. Acceptance Power up, tap an NFC card, the projector advances to the right image disc and plays the linked track with clean audio and stable illumination. I’m aiming for a long-term collaboration to polish the concept after this first build, and it would be great if you are already based in Romania for easier shipping and testing, but I’m open to remote talent that can deliver a rock-solid prototype.

With a formidable background in digital motor control, analog and electronic design, and PCB layout, I am uniquely poised to transform your children’s story-projector toy into an open, re-programmable platform using the ESP32. My experience with embedding various microcontrollers such as PIC18, MSP430, Atmel, Renesas, and STM32 will come in handy for reconfiguring the factory PCB into a working prototype motherboard that is compatible with your desired functions. Simultaneuosly, my solid knowledge of Orcad simulation will ensure everything flows seamlessly. Moreover, my expertise in Power Electronics and Renewable Energy would enable an effective integration of systems essential for this project such as the DFPlayer Mini for sound and the NFC reader for quick selection of content. I would be able to create an audio delivery system that recognizes each tapped card and switches to the matching set immediately without any disruptions. Being based in Romania adds convenience to our engagement; proximity makes shipping and testing easier. Nonetheless, I have substantial experience working remotely and assure you of uncompromising quality regardless of our distance apart. Let's collaborate on this project to create a fully-functioning prototype with comprehensive documentation that lays out future modifications clearly. Together we can craft a toy that brings joy to children while fostering their imagination by allowing endless choices of stories.

Hello, I’m very interested in this project and can develop the complete ESP32-based replacement platform. I have 10+ years of experience in PCB design, embedded hardware, ESP32/STM32 firmware, IoT, and electronics development. I can design a compact motherboard that reuses the existing buttons, speaker, LEDs, motor, DFPlayer Mini, and NFC reader while fitting the original mechanical constraints. The firmware can handle NFC UID mapping, image-disc selection, audio playlists/silent modes, and content updates through a simple serial or Wi-Fi interface. I will provide the complete schematic, PCB source files, firmware source, pinout, documentation, and content-management guide. I can also handle prototype bring-up, debugging, testing, and refinement to ensure reliable operation of the motor, illumination, NFC detection, and audio. I’m available for remote collaboration and would be interested in continuing with future improvements after the initial prototype.

Hi, I have read your requirements for retrofitting the story-projector toy. I am an Embedded Systems Engineer with extensive experience in ESP32 firmware and PCB design, and I specialize in “Retrofitting” and “Reverse Engineering” industrial and consumer electronics. My Technical Approach for your Project: Hardware: I will design a custom PCB to fit the exact physical footprint of the toy. I’ll integrate the ESP32-S3 (or classic) with the DFPlayer Mini and an NFC reader (PN532 or RC522). Peripheral Reuse: I will map the existing buttons, motor drivers, and LEDs to the ESP32 GPIOs, ensuring seamless mechanical integration. Firmware: I will develop a modular system where NFC UIDs are mapped to specific SPIFFS/SD-card paths. I can implement a Web Interface (hosted on ESP32) for you to easily upload files and map NFC tags without needing to re-flash the code. Audio/Visual Sync: I will ensure the motor control (for disc advancement) is perfectly synced with the DFPlayer’s audio triggers. Why Remote Collaboration works with me: While I am not in Romania, I can provide the full Altium/Gerber files for local fabrication, or I can ship the assembled prototype to you. I will provide a video demonstration of the prototype working on a breadboard/test-rig before finalizing the PCB. I’ve built similar systems, including a “Tactical Smartwatch” and “Industrial Control Boards,” so I understand the importance of reliability and “clean” audio. Can you share a photo of the internal PCB and the motor/LED connections? This will help me give you a more precise timeline.

Hey — saw your post about retrofitting a children’s story-projector toy with an ESP32. A key challenge is usually getting the projector to sync smoothly with custom scripts without lag. Do you have any existing firmware or hardware specs you can share to help me understand the current setup? I’ve converted similar toys to open platforms before and can help make yours fully reprogrammable. Send over any docs or schematics you have, and I’ll take a look.
