Civil Engineer/Structural Draftsman Needed for Bar Bending Schedule and Bill of Quantities for Piano Key Weir Design

Project Overview We are seeking an experienced freelance civil engineer, structural draftsman, or quantity surveyor to prepare a detailed Bar Bending Schedule (BBS) and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for a pre-designed Piano Key Weir (PKW) structure. The PKW is a specialized spillway design used in hydraulic engineering projects, and all necessary design drawings will be provided to the selected freelancer. The provided materials include: Plan view of the PKW. Longitudinal section (L-section) with complete reinforcement details, including main bars, stirrups, and other structural elements. This is a straightforward task focused on quantification and scheduling based on the given drawings. No new design work is required—the structure is already fully designed. Scope of Work The freelancer will be responsible for the following deliverables based on the provided plan and L-section drawings: Bar Bending Schedule (BBS): Prepare a comprehensive BBS for all reinforcement steel in the PKW structure. Include details such as bar mark, diameter, shape, dimensions, number of bars, length per bar, total length, weight per bar, and total weight. Cover all elements including foundations, walls, keys, and any other reinforced components. Use standard formats (e.g., in Excel or PDF) with clear references to the drawing sections. Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., IS 456 or equivalent for reinforced concrete). Bill of Quantities (BOQ): Develop a detailed BOQ for the entire PKW structure. Itemize quantities for all materials, including concrete (by grade and volume), reinforcement steel (by type and weight), formwork, and any other associated items like excavation or backfilling if implied in the drawings. Structure the BOQ in a tabular format (e.g., Excel) with columns for item description, unit, quantity, rate (placeholder if needed), and amount. Provide breakdowns by section (e.g., upstream keys, downstream apron) for accuracy and ease of reference. Any Additional Clarifications: Review the provided drawings for completeness and request any minor clarifications if needed (though the drawings are detailed). Ensure all calculations are accurate and verifiable. Include a summary report highlighting key assumptions, total material quantities, and any potential optimizations (optional but appreciated). Requirements Proven experience in civil/structural engineering, particularly with hydraulic structures, dams, or spillways (experience with Piano Key Weirs is a plus but not mandatory). Proficiency in tools like AutoCAD, Excel, or specialized software for BBS and BOQ preparation (e.g., RebarCAD, QS software). Strong knowledge of reinforcement detailing, quantity takeoff, and construction standards. Ability to work independently with provided drawings. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in calculations. Good communication skills for any queries during the project. Deliverables Final BBS in Excel/PDF format. Final BOQ in Excel/PDF format. Any supporting calculations or notes. All files to be delivered within 5 days from project start. Timeline and Budget Project duration: 1 week (drawings will be shared upon hiring).
