Hello. I'm an individual inventor looking for a bid on a simple mechanical device for a prototype.
Two counter rotating rollers, apx. 13'-15" long and 2" in diameter - similar in dimension to an extra wide paint roller.
The mechanism involves both rollers counter rotating to advance a substrate of an uneven, fairly fine gravel-like material on top of a plastic membrane between the two. The rollers would most likely need some sort of rubber or gripping surface, possibly with some texture to assist the pull-through, but that may not be needed. The force required to move the substrate forward will be minimal - less than 5 lb of force and at a very low RPM/advance rate (maybe 10 ft. a minute). It will basically act as a conveyor system and pull the membrane and substrate through to a container on the other side. The substrate will average 1/2" in depth.
The bottom roller will be fixed but the top might end up having a slight bit of flexibility, possibly by way of a swing arm or other leverage mechanism, to allow for passage of uneven substrate. Another possible solution would be to have the roller mechanism fixed but roller itself somewhat flexible around its axle. This may overcomplicate the project though - please provide any design ideas to make this work.
