I’m putting together a compact add-on board for a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W that will serve as the “all-in-one” backbone of a small, battery-powered LoRa project. The key goal is to remove the usual spaghetti of jumper wires and break-outs and roll everything into one neat PCB that slides straight onto the Pi’s 40-pin GPIO header. Core functions I need on the board • Power section: Li-ion charge/boost circuitry sized for a single-cell pack, plus a miniature latching or momentary push-button circuit that cleanly cuts battery output so the Pi can be shut down like a normal device. • RF section: footprint and matching network for an RFM95 LoRa module. • Peripheral sockets: – Standard 4-pin UART header for a QR reader. – Two-pin “trigger” header that routes to a chosen GPIO. • Pi interface: female GPIO header so the whole board stacks on top of the Zero 2 W or the Pi stacks over the board with inverted GPIOs soldered both sides Deliverables 1. Schematic (PDF and native design file). 2. PCB layout ready for fabrication (Gerbers, drill files, pick-and-place). 3. Basic BOM with suggested part numbers and sourcing links. 4. Brief bring-up notes: jumper settings, power-down procedure via the button, and any GPIO pins consumed. I’m comfortable reviewing files created in KiCad, Altium, or EasyEDA—use whatever you prefer as long as the exports are standard. The design is intentionally simple, so I expect a clean two-layer board unless clear justification for more is shown. ✅Okay, I got what you want exactly. I am a Senior Embedded Hardware Engineer with over 10 years of experience, providing custom PCB design, power management circuits, RF layout for sub-GHz systems, and Raspberry Pi-based embedded solutions. In my opinion, the cleanest way to approach this is to treat the board as a tightly integrated power + RF module rather than just a breakout aggregator. I would design a robust single-cell Li-ion charge/boost stage with proper load sharing so the Pi can run while charging, and pair it with a soft-latching power circuit that safely signals shutdown before cutting power—so it behaves like a polished consumer device, not a dev board hack. This project is very similar to my previous works. I recently designed a 45mm x 52mm two-layer LoRa sensor node using an SX1276 module, MCP73831 charger, TPS61236 boost converter, and a GPIO-controlled load switch with less than 25mV ripple under 400mA load.
