I need a control circuit for a simple toy. I have a 1.5- 3V DC motor to be powered preferable by 2 AA cells. I wish the control circuit to operate as follows. A momentary switch to activate a timer circuit. The on time to be able to be set by a variable resistor to between 30 sec and 3 minutes. accuracy +/- 20% On activation of the momentary switch the timer should count down and the output of the circuit V+ should energise the DC motor in the forward direction. At the end of the timing interval the output to the motor needs to be reversed until the motor parks and stalls against a mechanical latch at this point the timer is switched off. This can be triggered by current sensing of the stall current ,or by a micro-switch as in the prototype circuit. If the momentary switch is pushed again during the timing period the timing should end and the circuit behave accordingly by reversing polarity. A tone should be generated during the reversing phase of the motor. The circuit should have minimal current drain in standby mode. I believe that this design can be achieved using a timer and H-Bridge e.g. 555 and 8837 Currently the prototype uses a simple timer and a relay to reverse the polarity.

Hi Stuart, I have designed a very similar requirement recently so this would be very easy for me. You are right an H bridge , 555 timer and a bit of logic is all that is required. I assume you only require a circuit and parts list at this stage? However I can easily re-quote if you require a custom PCB designed. Best Regards Dave

What I understand is you want to control the dc motor based on the time value you set using the variable resistor, operation start on a push button and finally ends from Setting a latch signal externally. The whole stepUP operated from 1.5 to 3 VDC. I have 10 year experience in electronics I can do this project and following shall be the milestones: 1. Specification requirement document. 2. hello, yes the project can be made with 555 and some resistors and transistors from the H-Bridge. i can make the schematic to can be made on a breadboard (solider less) and i can make you a pcb design. for an extra of 200 AUD i can ship to you a Full working prototype. br, Xtreme EHS

Hi, You may remove the h bridge if you use a relay with 2 poles. For reverse, use the 2 poles on Normally Closed from the relay to turn the motor backwards. A switch will cut off supply when the motor is done rewinding. Use a diode to power a tone circuit in parallel to the motor. For forward, the 555 will activate the relay, which will switch to Normally Open. That way, the motor is connected directly and the tone circuit is not operational because of the diode. Once the 555 is done timing, the relay will go back to Normally Closed and activate the rewinding circuit. To reverse the motor when the switch is pressed while the motor is going forward, well, I haven't figured that out yet, but I will if I'm awarded the project =) I have all equipment here to test locally and send you the schematic afterwards.
