Simple Android USB gadget compliant device with proximity sensor

Job Description:
We need to design a simple Android USB Gadget, which will plug in to the USB port of a tablet.
You can think of the gadget as a modified USB plug, that will also be able to charge the tablet at the same time, when connected.
Inside the USB plug a proximity sensor must be able to communicate the recorded proximity values to an Android application. You will be responsible for designing the schematic for this device. It is up to you to chose a platform that you find suited for this (ATmel, STM, etc). We will cooperate on writing the Android software (a simple test application for proof of concept).
