Hello! I'm getting ready to publish my third novel. This one is a short story collection and it is romantic in nature. It's not very long, approximately 53,000 words. And only 151 pages total on the word document I have it on now that is KDP/Kindle formatted. I'm looking for readers that are fans of romance, but in the old fashioned sense, not erotica. And also just simple, slice of life stories that make you think. A lot of the stories do not have a traditional beginning, middle, and end. There's no graphic content and it contains minimal profanity. If do have a few requirements for the people I hire. One is that you are able to read this within a few days (a week or less) from the day I hire you. Next is that you are able to use Microsoft Word and will leave comments on it anytime the stories make you feel a certain way or you react a certain way, good or bad. If you really like something, I'd love to know. If you hate something or think it's written awkwardly, or it's confusing, I'd love to know. If it makes you smile, I'd really love to know :) And I'd also like a you to write a small summary of your thoughts at the end of each chapter/story. What you liked about it. What you didn't like about it. How it made you feel. I'm still on the fence with a couple plot details and it will be really helpful for me to know what you think and if you wish something was written differently. Also, please make note of any errors that you spot. There shouldn't' be many, as I had three different editors work on it for me, but I may have missed a couple. And finally I will probably send you a short questionnaire afterwards. That's it. I'm really happy with how these stories came out and I'm excited to share it with the world, but first I could really benefit from the opinions of some helpful beta-readers. And finally, here is my working synopsis for the book:
Romance is alive and well in Luke P. Narlee’s striking debut collection of thirteen stories about love and loneliness that read like brief glimpses of important moments in people’s lives.
A once-famous elderly author has a heart-to-heart with his new nurse right before an important surgery that may cost him his sight. Their new friendship inspires and ignites both his imagination and his memory to recall semi-true love stories about the women in his life. A woman writes a love letter to the one she let get away but can’t decide what to do with it. Fed up with all men, Marie signs up for a dating service that promises the “perfect date,” but is there really such a thing? Attempting to get away for the weekend, a new mother and her baby must first endure a frustrating train ride that is full of surprises. Marilyn is convinced that her husband is having an affair after he gives his new restaurant a suspiciously peculiar name. But is it all in her head? And two star-crossed lovers, destined to be together, continue to meet again and again throughout different lifetimes, though not always under ideal circumstances. And more! In the end, it’s all about the chances we take and the connections we make while we’re still alive. Be kind and honest to the people you know—and the new people you meet—while you still have the chance. It’s too important to wait.
Everyone has a lesson to learn in these mysterious, inter-connected stories that are sometimes funny, often bittersweet, and always full of heart. This collection begs the reader to ask themselves “Am I making the most of my life?”
Two other things I'd to add: If you'd like to look me up to see examples of my previously published work, I have two books available on Amazon: Guest Bed and The Appointment: Lost & Found (book 1), both by me (Luke P. Narlee).
The other thing is I just want to make potential readers aware that most of these stories are very dialogue heavy. I thrive on writing good, intimate/meaningful dialogue. It's what I'm best at, so I tend to write a lot of it.
