Hello. I am a native Canadian with two Bachelor's degrees who has extensive experience in a formal ESL setting. I worked as an editor in my current country's largest legal firm, where I edited contracts, patents and other formal documents as well as correspondence. All the writers had English as a second language, and their writing required careful checking, especially with regard to use of technical terms in such fields as engineering, chemistry and biochemistry. I have also done freelance editing for university graduate students and university professors, all ESL speakers as well.
Further, I am a qualified medical transcriptionist, so I am well acquainted with medical terminology. While I did this job, I was responsible for editing my own work and reaching a very high standard of accuracy, which I achieved within a short time and then maintained.
On a personal note, I am deeply interested in some aspects of physics and many aspects of biology, and this supplements my professional experience.
My editing work has dealt with all the issues you mention, and I have had to become a careful proofreader who goes word by word and line by line. I have also developed a strong awareness of grammatical rules as a result of my work. I am sure that I can do this job well.
I would be happy to do free sample editing for you if you wish.
Sincerely,
Mark
