I need a Delphi component that is similar to an advanced Directory List Box.
The component should look and work like most advanced DirectoryList components such as the TAdvDirectoryEdit from TMS Software that I use elsewhere in my application.
The component will have two added features.
1 : The component should have a 'StartDir' property that restricts the user to seeing and selecting only folders and subfolders within that 'StartDir'. The 'StartDir' could be either a drive (eg. D:\) or a folder within a drive (eg. D:\Orders\Customer1).
2 : The Font properties of the component should extend into the drop down list. This will allow large fonts to be used which will make the component suited to use on touch screen applications.
Note that any buttons or other user interface parts of the component must be sizable through the properties as the component must be suited for use on both Touch Screen and non-Touch Screen versions of the application.
It would be good if the user had a "create directory" option while in the component, but any directory created must be within the 'StartDir' or its subfolders. This capability should also be able to be turned off with a 'AllowCreateDir' type property.
I have had problems with some existing TreeView components that show directory listings. My application regularly creates and deletes directories. If the application deletes directories that are within the structure shown in the treeview, the application can crash. This can happen whether that tree view is visible at the time the directory is deleted or not. The crashes can also occur when the directory is deleted, or when the application closes and the component finalises. This new component should not have this problem.
If there is anything in this specification which is not clear, please contact me for clarification.
