create a simple database

I need a simple database creating in either OpenOffice or an application I can download. There are 3 parts to the db. The first part will generate a long series of sets of numbers to be stored for reference. A lot of data but generated by a simple mathematical formula. The second part allows sets of numbers to be entered and stored in a separate series. The third part compares the various series and re-orders and displays results according to condition. It's kind of compare A with B and order by C with lots of simple data sets. I only have experience using OpenOffice spreadsheet and exel but I want this doing in a db that I can alter in the future as needed and I will need some basic instruction to use it as I have never used a db before. I would like to stick with OPenOffice db as I have that already and this is a simple task so it should suffice perfectly. Please could you respond with your quote.
