I want you to get the longitude and latitude numbers for 105 cities in the USA and enter it in the attached spreadsheet labelled "PIP Grantee List for Website 03-10." The data should be entered in column "E" labelled "Longitude and Latitude." I want to use the location information from the following page as the source: [url removed, login to view]
I want to comvert the information expresssed in degrees and minutes into a decimal number that you get when you divide the minute number by 60. In other words, 33 degrees 13 minutes would become 33.2166. I have provided a small spreadsheet with some sample long /lat entries.
Each city entry should ultimately display a longitude and latitude number derived from the web page listings. There are 297 cities listed on the spreadsheet, and 192 are listed more than once. In the case of the duplicate cities, simply enter the same longitude and latitude numbers for each similar city named.
These are the steps:
1. Find the city name in the "PIP" Excel file.
2) Look up the city listed under the relevant state on the web page listed above.
3) Copy the longitude and latitude listing.
4) Convert the listing into a four-place decimal by dividing the number of minutes by 60.
5). Enter the decimal longitude and latitude numbers into the spreadsheet in column "E."
This job calls for accuracy and speed. Familiarity with U.S. geography will help.
