We currently need short articles about computer tips and techniques for an e-mail newsletter that is published daily to 100,000+ readers and focuses on tips & tricks for average computer users. The computer tips and techniques we are looking for relate to general windows, Internet, and e-mail topics. Tips that relate to one specific program or hardware device usually are not appropriate for this project. We also need both feature articles and terms, with definitions, covering all aspects of computing. All submissions will need to be written at a level anyone can understand. Our goal is to help the average person utilize his or her computer - similar to the “Dummies” or “Idiot's” series of books.
For example, let's say you had a tip that involved opening the Display properties under the control panel. Most publications would simply tell the user to open the Display icon under the Control Panel. We are looking for more detail than that. We tell our readers EXACTLY how it's done - Hit the Start Button, Settings, Control Panel. Then double-click the Display icon. Your submissions will need to be well written, require a minimum of editing, include relevant screen shots and be presented in a light-hearted style. We like to entertain while we teach. If you submit a tip that reads like a high school biology textbook, it will not qualify.
The four separate categories that we currently seek, in the order of least to largest pay are:
01. Computing Terms – Normally 100-200 words - should be explained in layman's terms and include any relevant screen shots.
02. Tip of the Day – Normally 200-250 words - is geared towards everyone and needs to be written in a way that everyone can understand.
03. Computers 101 – Normally 200-250 words - is presented in a Q&A style and generally covers a topic beginners would be interested in.
04. The Feature Article – Normally 1000-2500 words - is a new area for us and is wide open for ideas. We want topics that are of general interest to computer users of all types - news, computer how-to articles (longer than our tips), buying guides, digital photography, etc.
We generally buy all rights to any piece that we purchase (although we are willing to negotiate). The reason for this is we may also publish your piece in syndicated and co-branded versions of our newsletter and that it may appear on other websites / paper publications with either our permission or via a syndication system. We may, at a future date and at our discretion, include your submission in a book project and pay you a percentage of the royalty.
How to Bid
The budget is set with a very flexible range to give you an idea of how much you can earn for your article, the low end would be what to expect for a Computing Term and the high end for a Feature Article. To bid on this project, please place a bid amount and tell us, in your bid, which of the four types of articles you wish to write (Computing Term, Tip of the Day, Computers 101, or Feature Article). Then, send us a PM with a list of subjects about which you wish to write (Please keep in mind that you can earn more for a 1500 word Feature Article that is very informative than you can for a 5000 word Feature Article that talks in circles or uses too many technical terms). Remember, this project is for one(1) article but will lead to many future projects so the longer and more specific your list of subjects in PM the better your chances that we will choose you to write other articles for our next project!
PS: Articles written with a high key word density for several target words and are otherwise SEM-SEO will earn a bonus!
Due to the overwhelming response to this project, and the minimum bid option being $30, we wish to make this a little more competitive by accepting bids for multiple articles (i.e. Bid $30 for 5 of #1 “Computing Terms” or $30 for 3 of #4 “Feature Articles” and 2 of #1 “Computing Terms”).
Also, please do not forget to send a PM with a list of specific subjects you wish to write (i.e. “10 Tips for Better Websites” will have a far better chance than “Website Design”).
Bonus! Please mention if you have done SEM/SEO website content and achieved high results and/or if you have experience with writing Press Releases and/or 30sec. Commercials for Authors releasing their new books.
