Looking for a distribution Protection and Control Engineer to design integration of a 50MW solar plant into an existing utility substation. The solar plant supplies the existing utility substation by two 10km 33kV overhead lines. Design to ensure the new generation does not compromise the stability or safety of the existing network (Considering that at 50MW, dealing with significant fault level contributions and bi-directional power flow). 1. Input to be provided by the utility and the client: 1.1) Drawings of the existing substation. 1.2) Protection Interface: confirmation of the utility specific protection functions requirements (e.g., Line Differential, Distance, or simple Directional Overcurrent). 1.3) Confirm which signals must be sent to the utility's Control Center via SCADA and whether monitoring only or control included (e.g., circuit breaker status, active/reactive power, alarms). 1.4) Confirmation of the utility metering accuracy requirements and where the physical meters must be located. 1.5) Utility to confirm if the existing Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) has enough spare I/O points. If not, utility to advise standard for RTU extension. 2. Protection System Design Provide utility short-circuit analysis to determine the fault contribution from the solar farm (design to take account of the different characteristics of inverters compared to synchronous generators during faults). Intertripping (Transfer Trip): Design a communication-based intertrip via fiber OPGW on the two feeder 33kV overhead lines. If the utility’s 33kV breaker trips, a signal must be sent to the solar farm to cease export immediately to prevent "islanding." Expected Key Functions: Line Differential (primary protection). Directional Overcurrent and Earth Fault. Under/Over Voltage (Anti-islanding). Over/Under Frequency. 3. SCADA & Communication Integration Design the link between the solar plant SCADA and the utility SCADA. Utility to confirm cyber security standards in use. Design the updated "Single Line Diagram" (SLD) view for the substation's local Human Machine Interface. 4. Revenue Metering Design 1) Proficiency in protection coordination studies using software like ETAP, DigSILENT PowerFactory, or PSS/E. 2) Detailed knowledge of protection relay functions: 87L (Line Diff), 67/67N (Directional OC/EF), and 27/59 (UV/OV) for anti-islanding. 3) Experience with IEC 61850 protocol (GOOSE messaging and MMS) for substation automation.
