I now need a complementary gear to be designed. The complementary gear will be approximately a mirror image of original gear, however the gear teeth will also need to be offset so that the gear teeth are complementary.
This task is best suited to the freelancer who completed the task of Complex gear design - Part 1. The freelancer who completed the original gear will have all the necessary information.
Complex gear design - Part 1
I am an inventor. I have designed a machine that requires an interesting gear design.
The gears perform a unique function: As the gears turn, the axles pivot with respect to each other.
Each axle is connected at its base to an element. The edges of the elements are connected by a hinge.
In the starting configuration the axles are parallel and separated by an arbitrary distance. As the gears turn, the ends of the axle connected to the elements get closer together while the other ends of the axles get further apart.
I have designed (at a conceptual level) a non-circular gear that will achieve this goal. The shape of each gear is a spiral with a pitch angle that varies along its length. The gears do not need to make a full rotation; instead the gears turn a partial rotation to cause the hinged elements to pivot about 40°. The gears can then be reversed the partial rotation to return the hinged elements to a flat configuration.
I have attach some rough illustrations to help explain.
I now need someone to properly design (CAD) the gears and, in particular, the gear teeth.
This is obviously quite complicated, and will require someone with a strong background in gear design. It will very likely require coding to calculate the shape of the gear and gear teeth (i.e. it probably won't be possible with pre-existing functions within the CAD software).
