Hi to all I was wondering if there is a way I can tag house-hold items with a extremely cheap transmitter, also very small, which I can then track using a transceiver device. I know there is RFID technology, but I think the transceiver device is expensive. I need a very inexpensive way to do this. A simple (?) program needs to be written that displays the device on a map, or at least says that the object is a certain distance in a certain direction. Can radio signals be used ? Since that is cheap. Will an antennae be needed ? Cheers

I work in robotics, autonomous navigation and mapping. The only way to track an object accurately is with GPS module. They vary from 40-70$ and you will also need an RFID (Bluetooth module or RF module 10-15$) transciever and reciever to send the coordinates of the object and to recieve them (for example by a laptop or a phone) and show them on a map. Example, the GPS module reads the coordinates from a satelite and sends them to a phone or a computer by bluetooth module, the phone or the computer processes the information and visualizes it. If you use 3DOF IMU they are cheap but not as near as accurate and they will not work, also you will need to start it from a known location ( (0,0) coordinate) and never turn it off, if it is turned off you loose the coordinates. Do not expect to have a prototype for under 90-100$ because GPS modules are expensive. If there was a cheaper way to do accurate tracking besides GPS it will be used in phones and robots and it will be on the market, but there is not.
