i'm doing a project on medical image registration and fusion. the images are CT and MRI images. it is a technique where an image has 5 landmarks/points placed on it (automatically) and use the points to link the two images by some kind of pattern recognition and geometrical transformation. I'm also using the registered image in augmented reality using live images.

i am doing it in Visual Basic 6. however, for the registration part there are various libraries and toolkits for it, mostly all are written in C and C++. so it's not exactly starting from scratch. I'm also using ARToolkit for the Augmented Reality part.
