I need a Windows Service guru who can whip up an example of a Windows Service that starts and connects to QuickBooks desktop editions.
I can make an regular console application that does this already, but it doesn't seem to work as a Windows service. I can provide you with the console application code.
There are a few requirements:
- It has to work on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008
- The install must be relatively simple or at least able to be scripted so that it's a simple installation.
- It must work with QuickBooks US, CA, and UK editions.
- It must run as a Windows Service
For now, it doesn't actually need to *do* anything, except connect to QuickBooks. I can provide you with a XML request to send to QuickBooks so you can see if it's actually talking to QuickBooks.
I'll require the source code once your done.
I would prefer a solution in C# .NET. VB .NET is OK too. C++ might be OK, we'll talk about it first. If you have another suggestion, we can talk about that too.
Again, all it has to do is establish a connection to QuickBooks so that it can be modified to allow sending of XML requests to QuickBooks.
Just to be clear, this project involves creating a Windows SERVICE. Not a Web Service, not a regular GUI application or console application, but a Windows service.
Just wanted to be clear. :-)
Attached is the code that works as an application, but not as a service.
For further clarification, you'll need to download and use the QuickBooks SDK (it's a free download, registration required) to test with QuickBooks. You'll also need to have a copy of QuickBooks, though I can probably provide one for you to test with if necessary.
Download the SDK here:
The attached code shows everything that needs to happen, it just doesn't work for whatever reason. I've been led to believe it may be a DCOM or permissions issue, but I'm not sure.
