In my opinion, a 20+ foot opening requires a full load path evaluation—roof and floor tributary areas, live and dead loads per Georgia-adopted IBC/IRC, proper bearing lengths, and column or post sizing. Deflection control and connection detailing will be carefully addressed to avoid sagging or cracking over time, while finish details can preserve a traditional aesthetic with concealed supports or trimmed beam wraps. This project is very similar to residential wall removals I’ve engineered to create open floor plans. I’ve delivered LVL designs with detailed calculations and framing sections for permit approval.
