I've a .skp model of a large house with about 20 rooms over various levels, that was output from another architectural drawing program (Rhinoceros). To work on it myself (I have limited Sketchup ability) I'd like to separate the model into different parts that can be shown/hidden alone. But my attempts to do this fail as it gets into a mess of hidden elements interfering that I don't understand! I need someone to clean the whole thing up, dividing the model into about ten 'pieces' (3 floors in main building, 3 floors of extension, stairs, 2 floors of conservatory, and new build) while getting rid of messy stray lines etc.
To help you understand the brief I'm attaching a .skp file of the raw output I started from, plus another of my failed attempt at what I was working towards. I've gathered from forums that my whole approach is probably wrong, as assigning the different floors to 'layers' isn't how Sketchup is designed to work... it should mostly be assigned to Layer0 with parts turned into components, or something like that? My basic need is to be able to hide parts of the building that I'm not working on, to be able to 'see' behind them to remodel other parts. Can you help me sort this out?
