JD: Infrastructure Architect – Azure Infrastructure Governance & Migration Role Summary We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Architect to provide architectural leadership, governance, and strategic direction for Azure infrastructure as the organization transitions from a primarily on-premises environment to the cloud. This role focuses on defining infrastructure standards, resolving architectural decisions, and guiding migration and modernization efforts. The Infrastructure Architect ensures that Azure infrastructure is designed and evolved in a deliberate, secure, and supportable manner as cloud adoption increases. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities 1. Infrastructure Standards and Governance • Define and maintain infrastructure standards and guardrails across identity, access, networking, encryption, environment isolation, and core Azure services • Ensure standards are well-documented, clearly communicated, and consistently applied 2. Hybrid and Cloud Migration Strategy • Define the target-state Azure infrastructure model • Guide the transition from on-premises systems to Azure • Establish patterns for migration, coexistence, sequencing, and decommissioning of legacy infrastructure 3. Architectural Decision Ownership • Own and document infrastructure-related architectural decisions and trade-offs • Cover areas such as network topology, administrative scope, security boundaries, and implementation patterns 4. Reference Architectures and Patterns • Develop and maintain reusable reference architectures and implementation patterns • Enable engineering teams to follow consistent infrastructure approaches 5. Risk Identification and Mitigation • Identify risks related to security, availability, operational complexity, and migration sequencing • Define mitigation strategies proactively 6. Design Review and Alignment • Review infrastructure designs and early implementations • Ensure alignment with approved architecture and standards • Provide guidance to prevent long-term technical or security debt 7. Cross-Team Alignment • Act as a key point of architectural alignment across infrastructure, security, and operations teams • Ensure shared understanding of standards and migration direction ________________________________________ Required Qualifications • Strong experience in designing and governing Azure infrastructure • Deep understanding of identity, RBAC, PIM, and access boundary design • Strong expertise in Azure networking and security architecture • Proven experience in defining infrastructure standards and governance models • Experience in planning and guiding on-premises to cloud migrations • Ability to assess risk, blast radius, and long-term operational impact ________________________________________ Preferred Qualifications • Experience working in hybrid (on-premises and Azure) environments • Familiarity with enterprise-scale infrastructure ecosystems • Experience driving infrastructure modernization initiatives ________________________________________ Immediate Needs (Infrastructure Focus) 1. Establish Infrastructure Guardrails Define clear standards for identity, PIM usage, networking, encryption, environment isolation, and core Azure services to ensure consistent implementation during early cloud adoption 2. Define Target Azure Infrastructure Model Establish Azure landing structure, network topology, security boundaries, and administrative model to guide implementation and migration 3. Provide Architectural Oversight Review early Azure implementations to ensure alignment with architecture and prevent long-term technical or security debt 4. Guide Migration Decision-Making Provide structured guidance for transitioning systems from on-premises to Azure, including sequencing and dependency management 5. Define Exception and Escalation Paths Establish clear criteria for when deviations from standards require architectural review versus independent execution ________________________________________ Long-Term Needs (Infrastructure Continuity & Maturity) Infrastructure Consistency Ensure Azure infrastructure patterns remain consistent as environments scale and additional systems are migrated Governance as a Living System Continuously evolve infrastructure standards and guardrails based on operational experience, incidents, and lessons learned Risk-Based Decision-Making Encourage evaluation of infrastructure trade-offs based on risk, with documented rationale and clear ownership Architectural Continuity Maintain consistency in infrastructure intent and standards through proper documentation of architectures and patterns, ensuring continuity despite team or personnel changes.
