Seeking an electrical engineer or controls engineer to design a residential prototype system for monitoring energy use on selected branch circuits and disconnecting a circuit when its daily energy consumption exceeds a configurable limit. Project overview The system is intended for a 120/240 V residential service with a 200 A main panel. The goal is to monitor approximately 8 to 10 selected branch circuits, measure kWh consumption on each circuit, and automatically turn off an individual circuit when its daily kWh use exceeds an adjustable per-day setpoint. The intended architecture uses DIN-rail Modbus energy meters, RS-485 communications, and contactors or other suitable circuit-interrupting devices controlled by a central controller. functional Requirements • Monitor 8 to 10 selected branch circuits. • Measure cumulative energy use in kWh for each monitored circuit. • Implement rolling 90‑day energy budgets per circuit: the system should track energy consumption over a 90‑day window and compare it to a configurable kWh limit per circuit for that 90‑day period. • Allow adjustable 90‑day kWh limits for each circuit (with the ability to change limits between periods). • When a circuit’s 90‑day consumption exceeds its limit, automatically disconnect only that circuit and follow a defined restart policy (e.g., manual reset, automatic reset at the start of the next 90‑day period, or both). • Log trip events and 90‑day energy history per circuit to allow review and adjustment of limits over time.
