When I'm talking with children I talk in higher pitches to sound more relaxed(like everyone does, perhaps instinctively) And for the last question, I think there is some difference and it may range up from simple ideas like a woman speaking in higher pitches being considered childish or cute while a man is considered straight up repugnant, to more controversial opinions, such as people commenting on the speaker's gender out of stereotypes. So, here I go: Yes I have altered my pitch, but it makes everything sound funnier so I don't do it anymore, and honestly speaking, I think that besides the voice factor, there's a lot to do with the overall presence of the person. I'm not saying that one gender variably has a more dominant presence than the other. But, that it has something more to do with the attitude a person normally holds and what they are 'expected to act like' in certain circumstances... if that makes any sense?
