Sample Writing Project

Overview The goal of this project is to create a strong base of content about the best practices of Product Management, in support of a new SaaS tool for Product Managers. I have defined a content plan that covers the key topics we need to write about, and identified good articles that are close in nature to the topics that this project will cover. The topic is modestly technical but you should be able to derive the important points by reviewing related articles that I have assembled as reference material for each article. Deliverable There are 60 articles with an average of 1,000 words each, so a total of 60,000 words needed. As a first step I'll ask 2-3 writers to complete 2 articles (paid) to demonstrate their work. From there, I will select 1-2 writers to complete the full project. Defining Success The following criteria will define success for each article: i. Well-written - Each article must be written with a clear and easy-to-read voice, well-structured and getting to the point, with proper grammar. ii. No ‘Fluff’ – Your writing should be clear and to the point. Do not waste time circling the topic or saying things like "Do you want to know more about this topic? Then let's dive in and find out". iii. For People, Not SEO – SEO will happen naturally if we write great content on the important topics. Rather than writing for search engines rankings, focus on writing great articles for the readers. Remember, the visitors of this content will be Product Management practitioners and so your voice must be perceived as authentic and authoritative. iv. Word count - The titles/topics have already been defined, and a target word count provided for each article (600, 1000, or 1,500 words). Each article needs to be within +/- 10% of the target. v. Copyscape - Each article must pass a Copyscape plagiarism check to ensure it is sufficiently original. We should not be thinking in terms of copying the articles provided as a reference. You’ll need to synthesize the key ideas from those provided resources and articulate this with your own voice.
